vins.jpgI am Vins. I am 29 years of age. I am from Pacode, a village in the district of Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India. I worked as an auto rickshaw driver, construction worker and brickline worker. Now I am the National team member and full-timer of YCW India. Lawrence and I from India participated in the Asia Pacific regional exchange and Full-timers training from 25th August to 4th September 2007 held in Manila, Philippines.

INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL 2008
Place: Thanjavour, Tamil Nadu, India
Date: 29th Sept - 11th oct 2008


IYCW will be holding its International Council from September 29th to Oct 11th 2008 in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. Around 70 young workers from 35 countries will participate in this international council. The reason to hold the International council in India is that India is a new actor within Globalisation and India is emerging strong in the international level.

YCW India's Actions in Informal Economy

Members of YCW India have analyzed their situation and that of the society since 1997. They could identify that the living and working condition of the workers in the informal economy is at risk. Various study sessions with the young workers helped to deepen the understanding of its causes and the impact it has on the workers.

India YCW organizes the young workers (men and women) in construction, agriculture, tailoring and making beedi (Indian Cigar) into groups. These workers receive awareness education on their situation at work, life and on their rights. YCW India helps them to form their own associations to join the trade unions. Through these programs they analyze their own problems
and act on it.

Suja (Karungal/Tamil Nadu)
I am Suja from the village Karungal in Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India. I am 20 years of age. I have 1 elder brother and one younger brother. I finished Secondary level education in a government school. I have been working in a cashew nut factory for the past 4 years. My father is a mason (in construction work) and my mother is a house wife. My elder brother is 22 years of age and he studied Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in a private college and now he is working in a company that makes motors that pumps ups water. My younger brother is 17 years of age and doing his Higher Secondary education.
