Develop Committed Leaders to strengthen the movement
The 25th National Council and the 75th anniversary of YCW India were held from 20th to 25th September 2009 at Stella Marys Centre, Kanyakumari. 33 delegates from 10 district movements from Tamil Nadu and Maharastra participated in the council. Mardiyono (Asia Pacific team member) represented the IYCW in the council. 2 representatives from the Labour commission of the Catholic Bishops conference participated as observers.
75th Anniversary of YCW India 
YCW India celebrated its 75th Anniversary on 20th Sept during the opening celebration of the 25th National council. 80 young workers participated in the celebration. The theme of the celebration was “75 years of action for the betterment of young workers”. Ruben, the former national secretary and the convenor of the Cardijn Community International was the chief guest. He explained the history of the actions of YCW India and the influence of the movement in the life of young workers. His presence and speech motivated the young workers. A souvenir was released to mark the 75th year celebration. The district movements presented cultural activities and participants were delighted.

I am Tamil Kavi. I am 24 years of age. I am from Pallapatti, a village in the district of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. I am the National Treasurer and part-timer of YCW India. Victoria Mary and I from India participated in the Asia Pacific regional Action Meeting from 10th to 15th Oct 2009 held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Delegates from Australia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka also participated. I am happy to share with you my experiences and what I learned from this program.

Wage increased for the Young workers in Pallapatti
Background of the action
Pallapatti is a rural area in the district of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. Around 2500 workers work in small factories that manufacture soft drinks, pickles, snacks and eatables and Appalam (a kind of eatable like kurpu). 600 workers work in 5 small factories that make appalam.

Wage increased for the Young agricultural workers in Kulimathoor
Background of the action
Kulimathoor is an agricultural area in the district of Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. In this area, the lands are owned by the upper caste landlords. The village has a population of 500 people. The dalit women (lower caste) work in the farms of the upper castes land lords.
The dalits live in small huts made of coconut leaves. Most of these huts have only one room. There is no toilet in the huts. There are no common toilets for the village. There is no protected drinking water for the village and no transport services to the village.
In this situation, the YCW full-timer started to contact young women workers of this area. He was able to organise 9 young women workers and they came together as YCW group on 26th Feb. 2006.
