Internatonal Exchange for Workers in the Informal Economy

Place - Thanjavour & Kumbakonam, Tamil nadu

IYCW will be holding an International Exchange of workers in the informal economy from September 26th to 27th in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. Around 20 young workers from Ghana, Zambia, Gabon, Egypt, Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Peru will participate in this international Exchange.

YCW India has been already developing strong actions at base level, district level and national level to ensure the protection of workers in the informal economy. These actions will be exchanged with other delegates who would participate in this program. YCW India could also learn from the actions and the experiences of the delegates from other countries and this could further strengthen its actions in order to achieve the demand for social protection.

Moreover, YCW India can highlight the issues of Dalits (the oppressed caste) who are mainly informal workers, the impact of feudal system still dominating in India and the issues young women are facing today to the international community.

Therefore, YCW India decided to organise this exchange in India before the International Council.

Let us prepare the base groups in the districts of Kumbakonam and Thanjavour to organise this exchange in Sept 2008
