INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL 2008
Place: Thanjavour, Tamil Nadu, India
Date: 29th Sept - 11th oct 2008

IYCW will be holding its International Council from September 29th to Oct 11th 2008 in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. Around 70 young workers from 35 countries will participate in this international council. The reason to hold the International council in India is that India is a new actor within Globalisation and India is emerging strong in the international level.

This has an impact (positive and negative) in the working and living conditions of the young workers and people in India. Therefore, the delegates from other countries would like to see this new reality emerging in India and how workers in general and YCW India in particular respond to this situation. As an International movement, IYCW also wants to show to India and to international community how it could be a counter force in the era of globalisation. An International Exchange of workers in the informal economy would also he held for 2 days before the council. The finding of the exchange will be brought into the International Council for deeper analysis and concrete plan of action will be developed to achieve the demand for social protection for the workers in the informal economy in all countries.

YCW India has been already developing strong actions at base level, district level and national level to be a counter force to the impact of globalisation and to ensure the protection of workers in the informal economy. These actions will be exchanged with other delegates who would participate in this program. YCW India could also learn from the actions and the experiences of the delegates from other countries and this could further strengthen its actions in order to achieve the demand for social protection.

YCW India has already formed a preparation team with 7 leaders to organise the international council. Kumar is the co-ordinator of this preparation team. This team has started working on the preparation since 2006.
