YCW India Demands
the Central and State governments to increase the Daily Minimum Wage…….
Poster
Campaign May Day 2010
We, the YCW
India, organised a Poster Campaign at the national movement level to celebrate
the International Week of Young Workers and May Day. The poster was calling the
attention of the Central and State governments to increase the daily minimum
wage of the agricultural workers and to increase the unemployment stipend for
the unemployed youth. We have been demanding the governments to increase
the daily minimum wage from Rs. 80 to Rs. 120 for the workers in the informal
economy. We printed 400 posters in Tamil and 100 posters in English and pasted
them in the towns and villages in the districts of Kanyakumari, Thirunelvely,
Thoothukudi, Madurai, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam,
Thiruvarur, Amaravathi and Akola.
We also distributed 4000 hand bills in Tamil and 1000 handbills in English to
the public explaining the history of May Day and the demands of YCW India.
The poster
campaign started from 24th of April to 1st of May in the
above district movements. The national team members, field workers, the
district team members and the leaders of the base groups involved in putting up
the posters in the public places in the towns and villages and distributing the
hand bills.
Through this
poster campaign we were able to bring the demands of YCW India to the awareness
of the Central and state governments and of the public.
On the 1st
of May, YCW India and CWM jointly organised a seminar at Thanjavur on the topic
“Labour Rights”. 70 workers of various categories participated in the seminar.
From YCW 15 young workers participated in the seminar.
Our YCW
districts movement have planned to organise many activities to celebrate the
May Day in the month of May in order to highlight the above demands of young
workers. The district movement of Madurai
will organise a public meeting on 8th of May. The district movement
of Thoothukudi will also organise a public meeting on 15th of May.
The district movements of Thiruvarur and Kumbakonam will organise a two days
seminar on labour rights to our young workers on 15th and 16th
